The Assassin and the Desert (Throne of Glass, #0.2) - Sarah J. Maas After the events of the previous novella, famous teenage assassin Celeana Sardothien and her fellow assassin Sam Cortland have the crap beaten out of them by their master, the King of the Assassins.

Celeana is then sent away, far into the desert. She has one month to convince the Master of the Guild of Silent Assassins to train her, and send her back with a letter of recommendation. At first this proves difficult, but Celeana meets Ansel, a fellow trainee, and learns about friendship for the first time in her life.

After a daring feat of horse theft, Celeana finally starts her training with the silent Master, but sinister outside forces threaten, and Celeana will have to use everything she's learned to help.
